Featured Speaker and Program: world traveler, author, and longtime Park Ranger Jean Muenchrath discusses her book If I Live Until Morning: a True Story of Adventure, Tragedy, and Transformation
Jean shares the compelling story behind her powerful new book, recounting a grand adventure that turned into a nightmare. After skiing 200 miles along California’s John Muir Trail, Jean faced death from a mountaineering accident on Mount Whitney. Broken and bleeding on the highest peak in the continental United States, she vowed to realize her greatest dreams if she lived until morning. Her escape from the Sierra Nevada Mountains turned into a five-day ordeal for survival. Jean’s recovery was equally daunting. Her journey spanned three decades and took her from the depths of despair and chronic pain to the heights of the Himalayas. When the specter of Mount Whitney continued to shatter her world, Jean befriended Tibetan lamas. Their ancient wisdom guided her on a path beyond her wildest dreams.
