The Library and Macdonald Book Shop are pleased to host a presentation and author signing for the newly-released book, Miracle on Buffalo Pass by Harrison Jones. The book documents the crash of Rocky Mountain Airways Flight 217 on December 4, 1978, and the extraordinary survival story that involves local resident Gary Coleman, owner of Estes Park Ride-A-Kart. Note: this event is a re-scheduling of the original program date to allow for a larger space for anticipated local interest in this story.

Gary Coleman was the first officer on Flight 217 and narrowly survived the 1978 accident. The book project was conceived by his daughter, Kelly. “When Kelly contacted me and began telling the story,” says Jones, “I was intrigued and knew there were many questions that needed to be answered. Kelly introduced me to her father, and Gary and I connected on so many levels right away. We visited the crash site near Steamboat Springs last October and have been collaborating for the past nine months.”

The author interviewed many passengers, medical personnel, Rocky Mountain Airways employees and others who had insights into the crash. “To date,” Jones adds, “I have interviewed more than thirty individuals who have graciously told their story for publication.”

Staff from Macdonald Book Shop will be on hand at the event for anyone who would like to purchase a copy and have it autographed. The public is encouraged to attend this free special event.
