Diana Laughlin, Tech Librarian, continues our community conversation about the news. According to a Pew Research Center 2016 study, 62% of U.S. adults get news on social media. Sharing articles– especially stories which create a strong reaction– are the breeding ground of fake news. Learn why it’s more difficult than ever to discriminate between news, opinion, entertainment, and advertising and how filter bubbles present information biased towards my own beliefs. Bring your own device or computer to this hands on class or borrow a library laptop. Media Literacy @ Your Library, a project of the American Library Association in collaboration with the Center for News Literacy @ Stony Brook University, is supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Democracy Fund, and the Rita Allen Foundation.
