New Mini-Branch Location Expands Access and Convenience
by Peggy Moore, Patron Services Supervisor
Within the Library’s Strategic Plan is one key and exciting objective: to deliver materials on a personalized basis. That means offering a variety of convenient options when it comes to accessing the materials you need.
We offer a variety of formats: print books, audiobooks, DVDs, and an expanding array of digital content that’s accessible anywhere and anytime with your library card.
We also offer options when it comes to locations. Our downtown facility remains our anchor—a comfortable, functional and welcoming hub. Meanwhile, the library has a presence throughout the district. Look for all those whimsical “Little Free Libraries” around town, maintained by volunteers. We recently coordinated a library partnership with the Eagle Rock School, expanding resources available to both public library patrons and students alike.
This spring, access and convenience were elevated with the completion of a major initiative: the opening of The Twig, a mini-branch library at the new Estes Valley Community Center (EVCC).
The need for a branch location was affirmed five years ago. Library services had grown steadily, as had our community. An alternative location would provide essential library account services and offer our patrons options.
Equipment needed for this new mini-branch had to be resource-neutral. The Library Friends & Foundation responded to this need, securing a generous donation from an anonymous donor that has funded the entire project.
We’re happy to report that the Twig is open and running well. You can now search the library catalog and choose “EVCC – The Twig” as your pickup location. If the items are on our shelves, an email notice will alert you within 24 hours that your items are ready, and you can pick them up at The Twig with your library card in hand.
Just as conveniently, you can return library materials at EVCC in the drive-up outside book drop.
What items may be picked up at the Twig? The very same items we check out downtown, with the only exceptions being electronics and large items like Discovery Packs.
The only membership required is your library card: you don’t have to be a member of EVCC to use this convenient new location.
The Twig is open the same hours as the Community Center, greatly expanding the hours each week you can borrow library materials. While we’re proud of the open hours of our downtown facility (which operates more hours weekly than Denver’s downtown library), the Twig expands library access to 28 additional hours each week—making it a great option for weekday morning early-birds and Friday-nighters alike.
Treat yourself to a visit to the Twig and explore this new library resource. It’s smaller than a branch, yet provides library materials both when and where you need them.
