A shiny new year is here! As those festive holiday celebrations transform into memories, we shift attention toward New Year’s Resolutions. Whether you’re currently making your list—or pondering how to keep your goals—the Library is the perfect place to find plenty of inspiration.

The very action of borrowing a book (print or digital), audiobook, or a how-to DVD offers a simple pathway to getting started and staying focused. Whether it’s your goal to get organized, eat healthier, learn a new language, or save more money, a book can be a great motivator. Browse the Library’s “New Year, New You” display table for lots of ideas! You’ll find those same book covers on our homepage too at estesvalleylibrary.org.

We’re also hosting many programs to help you discover and accomplish your goals. A glance at this season’s roster may reveal just what you’re seeking.

Do your resolutions include de-cluttering? Saving money? Living more eco-friendly? Our General Repair Clinics can help with all three. That’s where you can bring in a household object, maybe a broken lamp or a torn pair of jeans, and together, we’ll figure out if there are ways to fix them. What a motivating way to clean out closets and cubbies!

The next Repair Clinic is this Monday, January 6 from 5:30 to 7 pm. For household items you want to convert to cash, consider the “Selling Your Stuff Online” workshops on February 6 and 24.

Maybe you’re entering the new year seeking legal advice, whether it’s a simple recommendation or help filling out a form. You can sign up for the monthly Free Legal Self-Help Clinic. We provide a study room where you can visit one-on-one, via a Library computer, with a volunteer attorney.

The next session is Wednesday, January 8, with appointments between 2 and 5 pm. Call 970-586-8116, ext. 3, to schedule a time.

If you’re a college-bound student, your New Year’s goals might be: “Ace the SAT” and “Land some scholarships.” We can help with both. Get the inside scoop on scholarship applications at the workshop on February 4, then learn how to practice for the SAT on February 6 or 11.

Perhaps Santa gave you a new phone or tablet, and you’re now ready to access digital books, audiobooks and movies. Schedule a Book-A-Librarian appointment and we’ll show you how. Click here for details.

The new year is a great time to take a class or learn a new skill—with a musical twinge. There are still spots in the six-week Classical Composer class on Haydn and Mozart beginning January 28.

All of these programs require advance registration, so visit estesvalleylibrary.org to save your spot.

Throughout the year, look to the Library to stay focused and inspired. Whatever your resolutions, we wish you a happy 2020!
