Spring Book Sale: a Whole New Reason to Celebrate

by Sarah Walsh, Development Director, Estes Valley Library Friends & Foundation

Library used book sales are community-spirited events where book lovers and bargain hunters mingle with friends and neighbors, while benefiting a great cause: libraries and literacy. Now there’s a great new reason to celebrate.

The Estes Valley Library Friends & Foundation are hosting the first-ever Spring Used Book Sale on Friday and Saturday, May 4 and 5. This will be a great opportunity to shop for yourself, discover great gifts for loved ones, and support the library, while we await the Summer Sale this August.

The Spring Sale is a first. Mother Nature had something to do with that. We had scheduled our first such event for May 2017, until a massive snowstorm blanketed the valley and halted plans. Spring in the mountains can be a moving target. This year we anticipate better weather.

Volunteers have been busy sorting a great selection of gently-used books into categories. You’ll find it easy to browse tables filled with novels, mysteries, cookbooks, crafts, history, self-help, children’s, coffee table books, and much more, along with DVDs and music CDs.

Both sale days take place inside the library’s Hondius Community Room. Here’s a helpful overview of the times:

It all begins Friday, May 4, with the Preview Sale from 10 a.m. to noon for Library Friends & Foundation members. Those two hours offer the best selection, and don’t worry if you’re not yet a member. There are easy ways to join:

You can purchase a membership in advance at estesvalleylibrary.org. You can buy a membership at the door. Or, you can take advantage of our spring special: buy an Estes Park Duck Race ticket at the door on May 4, circle the Library Friends & Foundation, and you’ll receive a membership that gives you Preview Sale admission and gets you in the running (or swimming, we might say) for all those awesome Duck Race prizes up for grabs.

After the Preview Sale, things will be open to the public with free admission on Friday, May 4 from noon to 8 p.m.

And on Saturday, May 5, the sale runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come downtown for all the Duck Race festivities and make the library one of your stops.

Used book sales support key services in the library’s strategic plan. Support from the Friends & Foundation help make possible the Summer Reading Programs, early literacy services, digital collections, special projects like the recent second floor renovations, and much more. All ages enjoy treasure-hunting for their next reading adventures, so bring your family and friends.

We express gratitude to all our volunteer book sorters and book movers whose dedication make these book sales a success. And we thank our community for the generosity in donating so many books throughout the year.

Here’s to springtime. And here’s to the first-ever Spring Book Sale.
