How do I request materials for check-out?

It’s as simple as visiting the online catalog at As you find items you’d like to borrow, click the Place Hold button. You’ll enter your Library Card number and PIN number (or your EZ login ID).

What if I’ve forgotten my PIN number?

No problem. Contact us by phone, email or chat and we’ll help.

After I’ve placed my holds, what happens next?

We’ll retrieve your items from the shelves. Watch for a notification in your email Inbox to tell you when your items are ready (for now, please allow 1-2 business days, while this new service gets started). Once you’ve received your notification, book your pickup time

Once I’ve scheduled a pick-up time, what should I plan for?

We look forward to seeing you outside the Library at your scheduled time. Park in front of the Library and stay inside your car. You’ll have given us the details of your car’s make and color, and we’ll be right out in a jiffy. Be ready to pop open your back hatch or trunk, and we’ll place your materials there. No need to call us when you arrive: we’ll be on the lookout for you.

Will I need to hand you my Library Card?

So we can practice safe distancing, no card is necessary. We’ll have checked out the items to you beforehand. We will verify the Holds Receipt with you from a safe distance.

Will Library staff be wearing masks and gloves?

We sure will! We’ve implemented full safety protocols while handling all materials.

If I have items to return, may I hand them to the librarian?

We ask that all returns be deposited into the convenient no-touch drive-through book drops in front of the Library. This allows us to keep our check-in and check-out protocols separate.

What if I have kits (Library of Things and Discovery Packs) that don’t fit in the book drops?

Simply let us know this when you schedule your appointment. Our staff will note this and be ready to receive those special items.

Should I disinfect items before returning them?

No need to do so. Research shows that quarantining items (which we’ll do automatically) is most effective.

What if I don’t have a car and I’m arriving on foot?

Simply let us know this when you schedule your appointment. We’ll look for you and practice safe distancing in transferring your pick-up items.

What if, on my drive to the Library, I suddenly remember something I forgot to place on hold?

Under normal circumstances, we love and encourage “impulse checkouts”! At this time, however, our systems aren’t set up for that. However, you can place a hold on that item later, and it will be saved for your next pick-up time.

Is Cliffhanger Used Books open?

Cliffhanger Used Books at 191 W. Riverside Drive is open. Current hours are: Mondays through Saturdays, from 10 AM to 6 PM, and Sundays from Noon to 4 PM.
