Loan Periods, Renewals, & Holds
To make collections available to all patrons on an equal basis, the Estes Valley Public Library District (Library) sets limits on loan periods, renewals and holds. Some materials may have shorter loan periods or fewer numbers of renewals or holds due to high demand, limited collection size, material type or lending source.
- Patrons may borrow up to 99 physical items at a time, and place 99 holds on materials that are not immediately available for use. Digital Collections have their own checkout and hold limits.
- The Library notifies patrons of holds and auto-renewals by email, text, or phone. Patrons have 5 days to pick up physical items, and 3 days to retrieve digital downloads. All materials may be returned to the downtown location, and most materials may be returned to any Estes Valley Library location. Exceptions include large or multi-part items that cannot fit into a book drop, which must be returned to the downtown service desk. Most Library materials may also be returned to any public library in Colorado, however, patrons are responsible for materials on their account until the items reach the Estes Valley Library.
- The Library participates in a cooperative Interlibrary Loan (ILL) program with most other Colorado libraries, and many others in the United States. ILLs are generally available for materials that the Library does not own, and when the Library owns the item but it is currently checked out. ILL requests are free of charge, but cardholders are responsible for any fees that are specified by the lending library.

The Estes Valley Library Loan Periods, Renewals and Holds Policy was adopted and approved by the Library District Board of Trustees on December 11, 2006, revised on February 20, 2007, November 16, 2009, September 17, 2012, December 14, 2015, March 18, 2019, and October 17, 2022, at which time the InterLibrary Loan policy was merged into this policy.
