Program & Partner

As an expression of its mission to bring people, ideas and opportunities together for the enrichment of our community, the Estes Valley Public Library District (Library) will offer a wide variety of programs for all ages.

Ultimate responsibility for Library programming rests with the Director, who administers the programs under the authority of the Board of Trustees.  The following criteria are used in making decisions about program topics:

  • Advances the Library’s mission, goals and objectives
  • Reflects the interests  of Library users and the community
  • Works within availability of resources (staff, space, budget, etc.)

The Library’s philosophy of open access to information and ideas extends to Library programming. Library presentation of a program does not constitute an endorsement of the content of the program or the views expressed by participants, any more than the purchase of material for the Library collection constitutes an endorsement of the contents of the material or the views of its creator. Programs shall not exclude topics, materials, speakers, media, and other resources because they might be controversial.

The Library draws upon the community in developing programs and actively partners with other agencies, organizations, institutions, and individuals to develop and co-present public programs. In addition, the Library has a commitment to offer programs in partnership with the Estes Valley Library Friends & Foundation, to serve our community of patrons and donors. Only partners deemed appropriate and compatible with the mission, goals, and policies of the Library will be considered.

Any program undertaken by the Library, and any of its partners, must respect the Library’s commitment to intellectual freedom. Programs are not used for commercial, religious, or partisan purposes. Material and program content must be mutually agreed upon by the Library and its partner.  The Library has final determination of program and material content.

The Library:

  • Will develop each partnership on an individual basis and document the terms and conditions in writing.
  • Reserves the right to cancel an existing agreement

In general, admission is free for Library programs. However, at the discretion of the Director, the following will be permissible for Library-initiated fee-based programs:

  1. Fundraising to benefit the Library
  2. The sale of books by its author as part of a Library program
  3. Fees to off-set the cost of a Library program

The Board of Trustees recognizes that the presentation of diverse content may result in requests for reconsideration. Please review the Reconsideration of Library Resources Policy.
