Winter Reading Program for Tweens & Teens

The dark days of winter can make it easier to be hooked on the blue light of our device screens. Instead of scroll, scroll, scroll, why not read, read, read?

This year, based on advice from the Library’s Teen Advisory Council, tweens and teens ages 10-18 are invited to participate in the first ever Winter Reading Program, taking place from November 7 through January 2. Join us by tracking your reading and earning tickets to enter to win prizes. Here’s how to get started:

  • Download the Beanstack app & set up your account (or log in with your previous summer’s account info!).
    • If you prefer to log your time via web browser, simply click the link above to view the desktop version.
  • Read happily, whatever you choose! Listening to books counts too. Borrow books from our collection, check out the e-books through Hoopla or Libby, & download audio books with your Library card.
  • Earn tickets to win prizes as you tally your reading time and complete our fun reading challenges.
  • Need help with logging your minutes? Email Youth Services.

“Winter Reading Program is a great incentive for our community’s youth to read over holiday breaks,” commented Bre Vegas, Youth Librarian. “Our Advisory Council expressed that they wanted a challenge, and we are here to deliver!”

Reading provides many benefits, including reducing stress and keeping our creativity and memory skills sharp. Reading also improves focus and concentration, and develops new neural pathways, regardless of age.

At the end of the program, tweens and teens are invited to celebrate their winter reading on January 2 at 5 PM in the Hondius Community Room. Share your favorite reads from the past weeks, play games, enjoy snacks, and stick around for the prize drawing.
